It was interesting to read myself in Anya's internal monologue (in some ways, not in others. I will not elaborate, guess if you wanna.)
I used to joke about how THE BIG EMPTY is also how I describe my depression, but the "haha" part is gone and just the "oh shit" part remains.
One thing I love about Crais' writing as someone who does criminal defense is that... Yeah. Sometimes every angle of a situation sucks. There's nothing you can do about that; the train's in motion & you can't hop off.
That part feels so true to life. It grounds me in the story.
I've spent the last year ONLY letting myself enjoy things with the unfettered enthusiasm of a teenager, so sometimes I like what I read and my only response is "the longest YEAHHHHHHHHHHH ever"
And that's just not the kind of commentary I used to give.
Sorry/you're welcome?
My copy of THE BIG EMPTY came in the mail yesterday. I haven't even opened the package, because I can't trust myself with that level of temptation.
But Friday is just around the corner...
I read Racing the Light between getting home from the signing event (9 or 10 pm, maybe) and 6 am. I wouldn't change a thing about it, but this time I'll plan to avoid the all-nighter.
I know it could take a week or more, but I'm practically glued to the mailbox waiting for my copy of THE BIG EMPTY to arrive.
What do we think is the over/under on how long it'll take me to read it cover to cover? 8 hours?
