🐉 We're delighted that Lorna Slater MSP is continuing as #NatureChampion for the Northern Damselfly with Scottish Environment LINK.
We look forward to continuing our work together to champion and protect one of Scotland's rarest dragonflies and its special wetland habitats.
Hairy Dragonflies have had a good season this year in Staffordshire, being reported at five sites so far. I took this image at Norton Bog near Cannock on 29/05/26.
Very pleased to see over a hundred White Rock-rose flowers with many seed heads near the steps up to Brean Down, North Somerset . A Red listed plant only found here and at Berry Head South Devon in the UK . June 14th 2026.
Every year, thousands of protected animals, including whales, dolphins and seabirds, are killed incidentally by fishing gear.
The Government must work with fishers and environmental NGOs to end the bycatch of marine species.

The annual count of apparent occupied urban #Kittiwake nests in #Scarborough completed! An increase of 19.5% on 2025 with a grand total of 1,323. Let's hope the @northyorksc Gull Strategy gives these beautiful urban gulls a positive future

The move from oil/gas to electricity is going to mean lots more power-lines. Hopefully they won't go through important wader breeding areas.

The Western Reef Heron in Caernarfon Harbour this morning. What a striking bird – and fully-plumed too!

🔍 Species Spotlight: Emperor Dragonfly
Look for its apple-green thorax, sky-blue abdomen (males) and powerful flight.
Spot one this #PondWatch weekend? Record it on iRecord! And don't forget, the Emperor Dragonfly is shortlisted for the new UK banknotes. 💷✨
After watching numbers of House Martins decrease year on year, it was a real pleasure to see about a dozen collecting mud on the attenuation ponds on the new housing development next to Perton golf course. Let's hope the new home owners tolerate the nests on their new homes 🤞
It's World Peatlands Day 🌿
Peatlands provide vital habitat for some of the UK's rarest dragonflies. Through our Dragonflies on the Bog project, we were able to be a part of the restoration and protection of these special places.

Make your voice heard on pesticides…tell the Government you don’t want glyphosate in your gardens, parks, playgrounds and public spaces. ✋

Good news from Portugal - the illegal work of blocking the nest entrances at Trancoso Castle, (the largest #Swift colony in Portugal where 500 pairs of common Swifts nest), has been stopped. The Swift guardians pass on their thanks to everyone who publicised this #wildlife crime.
At our most recent committee meeting we have awarded £37k to local groups for vehicles, repairs and equipment.
This week alone has seen news of members of three different hunts charged and put in court - all three investigations that culminated in hunters being charged with illegal hunting and badger sett interference, was thanks to the evidence gathered by HSA affiliated groups - your donations ensure we can keep our groups moving, saving lives and gathering evidence - so thank you.
If you’d like to become a member of the HSA and help our groups to keep saving lives, exposing hunting, and producing these results, please follow the link 👉 https://t.co/tCKNb2yMgL
