Clearly fatal results like this should not occur in modern vehicles. This collision is more than survivable. Death should be questioned whenever such results occur.
Just before 2 a.m. today, officers responded to a single-vehicle collision near E. Mill Plain Blvd. and E. Reserve St. The vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree head-on in the center median.
The driver was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced deceased. Impairment is believed to have been a factor in the collision, and the driver was not wearing a seatbelt.
VPD's Traffic Unit is continuing the investigation.

These 3 photos are very well done in providing explanation about how collision might have occurred. But we need far more transparency from investigating police so riders & drivers can know how to avoid such collisions.
.@HaltonPolice investigating a collision involving a cyclist on Speers Road west of Kerr Street in #Oakville earlier. Male rider transported by @HaltonMedics207 to Hamilton General Hospital with serious injuries.
What kind of scooter? What kind of collision? No other veh involved so this would never be recorded in police reports. This is the kind of bad reporting about collisions that we seemingly find acceptable until we are the victims & its too late.
Being thrown "100 ft" during rollover ejection is not unusual so this is publicity stunt to catch uninformed public's attention. What kills you is what you strike & this could mean shorter throw distance. Ejection could also cause being crushed by own vehicle but this never said.
It is these people, like Ricky Gervais, that I admire. Any idiot can become president of something big. It takes an exceptional person to look after the welfare of other humans and also all living creators. You don't get a monetary reward for being exceptional, you get respect.
RICKY GERVAIS USES HIS OWN HARD-EARNED MONEY TO RESCUE THE FINAL BEARS FROM CRUEL BILE FARMS
Comedian Ricky Gervais has donated $200,000 from the profits of his Mortality tour to Animals Asia. This generous gift will directly help rescue and rehabilitate the last one hundred fifty bears still trapped in tiny cages on the remaining bile farms in Vietnam. These animals have suffered years of painful bile extraction in conditions that no creature should ever endure. It is inspiring to see private philanthropy and personal success making a real difference by fighting this barbaric practice through action rather than empty talk.
This matter rarely discussed because those conducting the installations don't want you to know about it. Guardrails deflect. Its not rocket science. But if something is in deflection zone clearly the guardrail is dysfunctional. Thank you Real Guardrail Guy for making this known.

The hazard, a large overhead sign post is within the deflection zone of the guardrail. Guardrail has about 4 feet of lateral deflection and you will hit the post.
I totally understand why The Real Guardrail Guy would focus so much of his life into correcting unsafe roadsides that kill people. If only we could understand that these fatalities are personal, not statistics. Pay attention when he observes something that is not right.
My daughter died hitting the end terminal in the background in 2016. Just noticed today that @myTDOT has a 3 foot UNBOLTED overlap in the concrete transition.
@MarkNagiTDOT does the $300k cap on damages influence TDOT's maintenance priorities.
The Real Guardrail Guy has raised this important question that I have mentioned on numerous occasions. Regardless of driver impairment, if other factors led to collision consequences clearly they must be reported, not hidden.
Moral Dilemma Question?
Suppose a driver is intoxicated and a manufacturer committed fraud. How do you hold both parties responsible?
Should a guilty manufacturer be let off the hook because a driver has also done something wrong?
