Buffalo Soldiers Day is honored on July 28th to commemorate the establishment of the first U.S. Army regiments composed of African-American soldiers in 1866.

Buffalo Soldiers were based in Hillsborough County during 1898 before setting off to fight in the Spanish-American War.
