To @iamkarendavila Am a #filipino living in #America. Filipino pop music, by and large, has been branded "baduy" even by many Filipinos living abroad. When @SB19Official started going viral, they started getting the attention of other fans who are into Kpop and that's key because that's really the lowest hanging fruit and a huge market.
They started going on tour in the US. At least a quarter of the audience are of other nationalities and races. These "international fans" have become the bridge to even more international fans. That has helped them win international awards, get slots in US shows, etc. Is #SB19 as popular internationally as Kpop counterparts? No but they are helping start the conversation.
At the start, it's natural for no other #PPOP group to be in the conversation in the early years. Even Kpop took decades to move from Korea to Japan then to the rest of Asia then to North America. And that's with the Korean government support.
SB19 has largely relied on the quality of their songs and performances to go viral online. They had to rely on their own investments to be able to go around the world to tour, forming micro communities or micro fandoms, scattered throughout North America. They pump content to utilize each micro-community to slowly grow bigger. Yes, it's not as fast as we all want it but that's what you get when it's just 5 guys and small local team doing all the work for global reach. But that doesn't mean they didn't start it. It just means, they did it organically.
#SB19 is doing it all on their own. They don't get government funding. They don't have a huge label funding them. They don't have investors in the US ready to lend them money to use for marketing and PR.
I will be supporting #BINI because THEY ARE TALENTED, FULL STOP. And also, #Philippines could use all the success we can find. I hope that you also do enough research. I understand you are a wife and a mother, probably an entrepreneur too but it's also literally your job to do research and deliver facts. YOU, of all people, should know the power of words and the power that emanates from your position. Please be careful on how you use it. You know how many times words have obfuscated history. You know that.
A’TIN, ‘wag niyo nang puntahan yung twt nung op kasi hindi yun campsite. Ok na yun, uwi na kayo kasi at least diba pasok tayo sa top 5? And don’t retaliate with hate, dogshow dogshow lang tayo kasi mga straydogs naman tayo.
Dear A'tin, you are one of the most powerful fandom right now. Your dedication, passion and love for @SB19Official is unmatched. That's why you are an easy target by individuals, brands, companies, other groups. They know you can create noise, develop high value engagement --
So there is this Filipino Boy Group called SB19. They are under their self-owned company called 1Z Entertainment.
They are also the producers of their songs (written by the members) but i didn't feel any cringe at all! Their dance is also great 💯
