@bbcpress Got 60 seconds? Here is where the BBC spent its budget on network TV last year. Taken from the BBC Annual Report just published. Lowest share for 11th year running is the Midlands, only 3.4%. North gets 6 times more & London 10 times. It’s not how to manage a public UK-wide body.

Further to our Tweet yesterday, BBC figures show the north of England got over 6 times more spending (in 2024) on network TV production than the similarly populated Midlands & East. Likewise, Scotland, Wales & N.Ireland. Some licence fee payers are more equal than others. Why?

Just released: BBC Annual Report 2025, revealing yet again the Midlands got the lowest share of BBC spending 2024 on network TV production. ONLY 3.4% (-inc. East England too!). Something is rotten at the state broadcaster. @bbcmtd@WestMids_CA@RichParkerLab@bbcpress@lisanandy
@bbcpress Talking of percentages, 17% of licence fee payers live in the East&West Midlands, yet in 2024 only 3.4% of BBC spend on network TV production was in the region (including the East of England too!). The lowest share in UK, for 11 years running. The numbers don’t correlate. Why???

This was the UK's oldest working cinema until Manchester's Glenbrook Property got their hands on it 503 days ago.
A source of civic Birmingham pride, unceremoniously shut after 115yrs for a 50 floor tower.
How long will @RichParkerLab & @BrumLeader let this farce continue?
Absolutely the same issues apply to TV which has increasingly come to rely on inward investment of US productions shooting here. It highlights the urgent need for more investment in homegrown shows and a reasonable streamer levy to bolster our industry for the future.

Station Street in Birmingham was closed to traffic for one morning on Sunday and it immediately came back to life as a place for people to gather, rather than a ratrun for cars. There's a massive lesson there. But are councillors and @BhamCityCouncil listening?
