The iPhone 12 5nm process is exciting! 11.8 billion transistors is incredible. The biggest production chip now is the $9,000 nVidia GA100 Ampere @ 54 billion, 1/5 of that in a phone is fantastic.

The iPhone 12 looks great! TSMC deserves more credit for this. They consistently delivering better chip processes is a big reason the iPhone gets better every year.

I see it as small compute with no fan and no a/c. Near the data being generated. Also, enriching the data can be as simple as filling in the gaps. Sometimes it’s better to do some processing before you forward it.
