UK life sciences can lead the way in cannabinoid R&D - our co-chair Professor Trevor Jones rallying call in this month’s @DDWJournal https://t.co/jorbzMNgDz
FABP5 was recently featured as a potential new therapeutic target for #pain in the European Journal of Pain @EFICPain
This paper shifts the paradigm:
- Pain is not just neuronal—it’s lipid signaling dysregulation
- FABP5 sits upstream of multiple pain pathways
- Modulating FABP5 enables system-wide effects
Unlike opioids (single receptor), this approach:
- Rebalances endogenous signaling
- Expands therapeutic reach
- May reduce tolerance risk
ART26.12 is $ARTL's #FABP5 inhibitor being developed to treat the network—not just the signal—in neuropathic pain.

My question at #PMQs today:
To build the industries of tomorrow HERE we need to unlock the hundreds of billions in UK pension funds in the City.
Will the new Govt commit to the last Govt's reforms to the pension industry to unlock capital for British R+D growth?

A good glimpse into Patrick Vallance’s ambitions for UKRI here, and the model he expects the next UKRI CEO to aim for:
“UKRI shouldn’t be a research council on top of the research councils. It should be a strategic organisation that is able to accommodate within it a diversity of research funding approaches.
I’m concerned that a number of new and more innovative funding approaches got set up outside UKRI because it was deemed, probably correctly, that UKRI, as it was set up, didn’t have the ability to manage that diversity appropriately.
UKRI is not a monolithic corporate organisation. It’s something that ought to be able to have underneath it a mix of things, and it ought to see the overall landscape and be able to understand where and how it can facilitate that. That’s the model I think we need to work for.”

Home Office dept licensing cannabis research is "not fit for purpose"
-it only accept emails and voicemail and there's no way to speak to a human
-it takes a month on average to reply to an email
-Vital research into new medicines being delayed
