No matter your faith or where you call home, we all have a role to play in bringing about peace. The monks’ journey and our state’s reception are an inspiration.
I am pleased they reached Raleigh safely, and we wish them continued safety and health as they continue their walk to Washington, D.C.
Even in these divided times, their message of peace goes beyond faith or politics. We can all make a difference in our communities.
We are honored to welcome the Buddhist monks participating in the Walk for Peace movement to Raleigh. The Raleigh Police Department is proud to help ensure their safe passage through our community as they spread a message of peace.

Everyone keeps asking the same questions:
“Why are some monks barefoot?”
“Where are their shoes?”
“Are they okay?”
And that concern is human. It comes from care.
But it also reveals something deeper about us.
Here’s what many are missing—
the barefoot walk is intentional.
Some monks wear socks.
Some wear the simplest footwear.
Some choose none at all.
Not because they lack shoes.
Not because anyone failed them.
But because this is their discipline.
Their choice.
Their way of practice.
Grounded—literally and spiritually.
Each monk walks in the way that aligns with his inner vow.
And the compassion people are showing? That matters. It truly does.
But pause for a moment.
Really pause.
These are monks.
People who choose silence over noise.
Stillness over chaos.
Presence over performance.
Prayer over outrage.
They don’t chase attention.
They don’t argue online.
They don’t react to every provocation.
And yet…
they are walking.
Across distance. Across heat. Across fatigue.
Calling—quietly—for peace.
That should stop us in our tracks.
What does it say about the world
when those devoted to silence
feel the need to move
so the rest of us might finally see?
Something powerful is happening along this walk.
People are not just watching.
They’re feeling.
Strangers are tearing up.
Hearts are softening.
Minds are quieting—if only for a moment.
Just seeing the monks pass by, people are overwhelmed.
Not by slogans.
Not by anger.
But by a living reminder of what peace actually looks like.
Not loud.
Not demanding.
Not performative.
But calm.
Steady.
Humble.
Unshakeable.
This walk is doing something words cannot.
It’s awakening something forgotten.
It’s reminding people—without saying a word—that peace is not an idea.
It’s a way of being.
So if those who dedicate their lives to stillness are walking for peace,
maybe the rest of us don’t need to speak more.
Maybe we need to stop.
Breathe.
Lower the noise.
And listen—with the heart.
Because true peace doesn’t shout.
It walks quietly past you…
and changes you forever.

America is witnessing a wave of Buddhist consciousness. Buddhist monks are on a historic “Walk for Peace,” gaining global attention. 24 monks are walking 2,300 miles from Texas to Washington DC to spread peace, compassion, and loving-kindness worldwide. Bow to Lord Buddha. ...
These monks are not walking 2,300 miles from Fort Worth, Texas to Washington, D.C. just for peace. They are walking against the normalization of barbarism and cruelty in America. Nobody has to say who is responsible. EVERYONE KNOWS. 🙌🙏🫶
From a small group of monks,
it has grown into a path
followed by millions in America.
Across borders, cultures, and
languages, the message of
compassion and peace
continues to touch hearts.
In a divided world,
peace still finds its way.

I haven't seen a single post on my timeline about the #WalkForPeace being done by 20 Bhuddist Monks and their companion pup Aloka from Texas to Washington.
Every video I watch brings me close to tears because they fully understand what's happening politically and what's at stake.
U.S. weapons contractors are raking in record profits, despite delays, cost overruns, and failed deliveries.
These bloated contracts drain public funds from housing, healthcare, and climate action. It’s corporate welfare in camo. https://t.co/OerXVPFJSL
The son of the Palestinian prisoner leader Marwan Barghouti wrote:
“I woke up this morning to a call from a freed prisoner. He told me that my father, Marwan Barghouti, was physically tortured: his teeth and ribs were broken, part of his ear was cut off, and his fingers were broken in stages for amusement… What should I do? Who should I talk to? Where can we turn? We live this nightmare every day… Oh God, have mercy, my father is 66 years old, where is he supposed to find the strength?
Moroccan footballer Anwar El Ghazi has won his lawsuit against Mainz 05 after the club terminated his contract over his public support for Palestine.
The regional court in Rhineland-Palatinate ruled that the termination was unlawful, stating that his post “From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free” falls under freedom of expression.
As a result, Mainz must pay nearly €1.5 million in compensation.
El Ghazi announced he will donate €500,000 of that amount to support children in Palestine.
No me cree?
