In the US for my Harvard 5th year reunion. A nation in decay
Inflation is perceptible. Cities are dirtier. Every day, gun violence headlines.
Airport lines, flight delays, stretch for hours.
Average person is pessimistic.
Flying to India feels like returning to a better place
The working and middle class is a sacrifice I'm willing to make for my portfolio.
"... fresh fiscal spending could be risky at a time when inflation is already running at a 30-year high... fuel further price increases ... hurting lower-income Canadians."

If I were a Millennial who couldn’t afford a home, I’d be a lot more pissed.
The government isn’t just being incompetent. They’re actively working against you.
… not because of special interests, either. Have you heard an unscripted discussion? It’s genuine contempt.
Irpin was liberated from Russian control by Ukrainian forces on March 28, but remains disconnected from electricity and water due to shelling by Russian forces.
This is how the pandemic/lockdown vaccine passports will work, though. Merge people's health choices (a proxy for their politics) with their digital footprint; link that to their finances, their ability to shop, rent, live. It's China-style social credit.
Brutal jobs report.
I’m thinking about the 200,000 families wondering today how to pay their bills, after terrible government policies put them out of work.
@elonmusk The majority criticizing the Canadian truckers protesting don't realize many of these truckers are vaccinated.
They just know the guys elected to office that are unqualified to even run a fast-food chain, are now just testing how far they can go unchecked.
NEW: Chief Medical Officer of Health says "we can't eliminate the threat (of Omicron) we have to learn to live with it." Hence no more contact tracing in restaurants, gradual reopening. Dr. Moore says we have to monitor ourselves. #onpoli
Houses prices are almost doubling y/y in some places and 🇨🇦 govt proudly stood up on a podium in front of the whole country and said "HERE ARE 74 CHEAPER HOUSES"
Be humble. Be teachable. The universe is bigger than your view of the universe. There's always room for a new idea. Humility is necessary for growth. 🧠
This is the biggest difference between the Canadian and US housing market in my eyes. In the US, income and house prices have moved more or less in line. In Canada... oof, the chart is painful. (Another great chart set from Doyle at Macquarie)
It's cool how Canada sent Jordan $170 million over the past decade in aid, while the King bought about ~$140 million in luxury homes in foreign countries through hidden shell companies.
We really have no idea where tax dollars go.

Fun fact: Canada’s electoral system is rigged to give certain populations more power.
EDMONTON
Population: 981,280
Federal MPs: 8
PEI
Population: 156,947
Federal MPs: 4
A person in PEI is 3x more powerful than one in Edmonton when it comes to voting.
