I am very happy to announce that the Crest Scholars are officially creating content for the Smash University YouTube channel! You'll start to see both short form and long form content from us uploaded to their channel starting today.
We've also rebranded to a new Sothis icon!
That's it for prespike throw. If there is anything we missed let us know - there's a lot to cover, and that's just one third of the offensive capabilities of up b! The next thread will cover spike throw. Have a great day!

One last point: The DK zero to death is true and will kill if performed correctly. The sequence goes: Up B > Nair > Up B > Nair > Double jump fair. During the nairs, Byleth must drift back to counter the effects of SDI, which is the only counterplay DK really has to this.
These are the general followups off of up b, but feel free to experiment and get creative with things like dragdown up air extensions and taking advantage of platforms. Just remember that guaranteed damage is always your best bet.
To reiterate: There are a lot of variables that affect prespike up b. Rage is the most common factor that causes an opponent to avoid a followup. On light characters, DI out can avoid bair if Byleth has significant rage - if they can't though, they might die by the ledge - scary!
Without a jump and on certain DI, Byleth can still follow up with side b, but double jump helps with consistency against DI away.
On DI in without a jump, Byleth can buffer a back air on some characters and it'll sweetspot. This is essentially a knowledge check on the opponent.
At mid-late prespike percent (around the 30%-40% range) Byleth can buffer double jump, drift back, and react to both DI in and out with uair/nair/fair and bair, respectively. Practice this reaction timing for greater consistency on your followups.
Low prespike percent requires low-risk reads on your opponent's DI. Side b covers the most options but can lose to DI in. Consequently, dair can cover DI in and on occasion no DI and has the most reward in terms of raw damage.
DI In:
- Dair
- Nair
- Sour Side-b
No DI:
- Dair (stops working early)
- Nair
- Side-b
- Bair
DI Away:
- Sweet Bair
- Sweet Side-B (stops working early)
Watch this video for specific examples of these followups: https://t.co/jVae1D7NqJ
All of these should generally be performed after a buffered double jump. Each followup is percent, rage, and character dependent but will usually work on the stated DI.
Happy Monday! Today we'll be covering Sword of the Creator's prespike throw, which occurs when Byleth up b's the opponent when their damage is below 50% before the throw.
This thread will explain the followups on all DI and each of the variables to consider. 🧵

@REALOranguBang This has been thoroughly tested and vetted by multiple members of our team multiple times. Here is a video showing DI out and SDI.
Please do not insist on pushing out misinformation, even for interactions that may seem niche.

That's it for today's thread. This is a long one but an important one, as it demonstrates how there is still room to learn more about the game and this character. Shoutouts to Doze and Eroga, another up b labber. Their work and efforts should not go unnoticed.

By now you know that Byleth's up b is really complicated. There's always plenty of new interactions that we find and analyze for further insight.
The following thread will cover various abnormalities discovered relating to up b, and if we know why they happened.🧵
#SSBU_Byleth
What we know about up-b damage: scoop does 1%, grab does 3%, failed grab? does 0.01%, throw does from 6.5% to 13% depending on distance
What we don't know: What is the formula for up-b distance -> damage dealt from throw?
Hopefully we can solve this dilemma in the future.
