We spoke to members of the public to understand what they want to see from neighbourhood policing. We heard a desire for neighbourhood officers who are visible, easy to contact, and are engaged with the local issues and crimes that matter most to communities.
Neighbourhood policing has been deprioritised for nearly a decade. Our research with the Dawes Trust shows what needs to happen to make the Government's additional 13,000 officers, PCSOs and Special Constables work to achieve the Neighbourhood Policing Guarantee aims.
The 2019 Police Uplift Programme added 20,000 officers but case outcomes have yet to improve. Our analysis reveals why previous uplifts may have had less impact and how the uplift as part of the Neighbourhood Policing Guarantee can learn from these lessons.
