German friends,
Get out and vote today. With the rise of Fascist sentiment across Europe and even globally there is no time to be apathetic and watch from afar. Have your say.
When Bjorn Hocke from AfD, a leading member of the party, says things like Germany needs to change how it views its Nazi History. Realise what’s being said there. When they attack the free press or target journalists - realise that their attempts to reframe this as destruction of “legacy media” is entirely a dog whistle.
Issues that Europe is facing currently are being hijacked in order to lend credence to population replacement conspiracy theories. Whenever you have members of a party pushing to prioritise “Ethnic Germans” over even people who have lived in Germany their entire lives: the conversation is no longer about immigration it is entirely fascist in nature. You do not have anything in common with these leaders - you have way more in common with the same people eating shit at the bottom of the food chain. They aren’t looking after us.
In conclusion,
Fuck AfD, Fuck Fascism. Get out there and vote to stop these fuckers.
Sit down friends and I'll share some thoughts. As the most prolific theorycrafter and meta breaker in League's history, here is my perspective on the "off meta" discussion.
The META is an illusion. It has always been a false psychological oasis for players and teams to conform to what is considered safe, to follow the status quo, that way if you happen to lose the picks are not to blame. The true magic of League is that you can actually play any combination of champions and strategies you want!
If you want to be the best player or team in the entire world, you need to believe in your OWN strategies and vision of the game. The greatest stories of all time have yet to be written, so you should be trying to write your own everyday. You should be trying to find your own playstyles, the champions and strategies that you believe are worthy (even if no one else plays them!) and put those to the test against the best teams in the world.
I used to obsess over every champion, build combination, patch change and lane possibility every single day for over a decade when I was actively playing (how do you think I came up with so much crazy tech). This led me to having international competitive success back in the day and a decade history of creating insanely strong builds and strategies before they would get picked up by competitive players around the world or inevitably nerfed by Riot.
Despite getting push back my entire career for "breaking the meta", I never cared what anyone else thought or said. I'd try my best to logically explain the thought processes behind whatever new tech I had come up with, and without fail there would always be meta slaves chirping me because I had the audacity to play my own game and try to pave a new meta.
League of Legends has and never will be solved. The game changes every year and every patch, and there are champions and strategies that go under the radar for years at a time before the spark is lit.
A recent personal anecdote is how Ghost the summoner was INSANELY broken since the reset buffs in 2020 but was completely ignored for years before it eventually became world meta. I was literally nonstop tweeting about it and crushing people with Ghost while seeing it unpicked for so many World championships, only for it to finally pop off and like wildfire take over the global meta with every game running multiple Ghosts until it was inevitably nerfed hard by Riot in 2024.
There are so many similar instances and situations like this that I can remember going back to when I started playing League in 2010. The point here is not "omg I'm the goat theorycrafter" (okay well it is but 😉). What I'm trying to convey is that if a player like myself who has been out of competition for so long can still consistently identify and come up with objectively strong and "off meta" strategies, then so can YOU, our NA teams like FLY who came so close playing their own game, as well as any player or team out there trying to become the best.
League is like an ever changing science experiment. There is and never will be only one correct way to play the game. If you can logically identify a strategy, champion or playstyle that gives you an edge, then don't worry about what anyone else thinks! Play your own game and push it to the best of your ability. Be creative, curious and open minded. Don't limit yourself to the meta and what feels "safe" and "appropriate".
This doesn't mean everyone should play or approach the game like this. It's cool to play for fun, to follow the meta or just play whatever you want. This is my advice for competitive or aspiring players that want to become world class and hopefully helps someone out there.
Understanding and having respect for what is the current meta will always be important, but to be the best in the world you have to strive to transcend it! Become your own players, find your own edge, and write your own Championship story in the history books of Legends 🫡
