This would be crazy inappropriate even if the character was just some random dictator villain type, but he’s not. He is a Rom. This type of allusion is incredibly tasteless and offensive.
@doomrichards This entire run has done a very poor job of accounting for Doom's Romani background + racial dynamics in Latverian society. Zdarsky et al have already been treating Doom + his relatives as white people, so I doubt this was ever brought up in the design process.
Skein is an odd case-- originally introduced as "Gypsy Moth," she was later given an abstractly Romani origin story by Ann Nocenti in 'SPIDER-WOMAN' #48, harkening to the same stock tropes and imagined landscapes that Scarlet Witch, Quicksilver, and Doctor Doom emerge from. [1/3]
@DailyMutantsX Not the first time you've posted this character, and I do wish you'd provide some kind of context or disclaimer about her name. "Gypsy" is a racially charged exonym, sometimes used as a slur, and both the character + the insect's names are references to anti-Romani stereotypes.
Thinking about this again, and I came up with 18 options for a Quicksilver costume showcase à la Dauterman, to match the number on Wanda's. Most are Earth-616, the AUs match Wanda's as well.
Some of them are a bit repetitive, but switching up the blue+green helps.
This issue was colored by Matthew Wilson, an artist who is typically capable of much better work. Curiously, Wilson also colored both of these images, and this was run of SW which redesigned the twins as visible people of color for the first time. The oversight here is bizarre.
House of M (2004)
Chthon possession; Mighty Avengers (2010)
Ultimates (both costumes, would include his longer bangs)
Age of Apocalypse (both uniforms)
Pietro's costumes are pretty simple and his main look hasn't changed much but there IS variety and room to get creative! ⚡️💙💚

@crh_perseph@MunchkinM17 off topic but the way pietro is still in a slightly updated version of his debut costume while wanda already has a new look is CRAZYYY like no wonder there's no quicksilver costume cover the man has had like... 7 total
Uncanny Avengers (2015) [both the white suit + the purple fast-forward suit]
Quicksilver: No Surrender (2018) [used a pic from Scarlet Witch bc it shows the details better]
Torn suit; Scarlet Witch (2024) [just for color variety. Feels equivalent to a Savage Land variant]

A) multiple comics post-retcon have actually expanded on Pietro's powers parallel to Wanda's evolution + included him in the same lore/mythology + cosmic significance
B) that's a weird way to describe a Jewish character, and not accurate to any version of Billy-as-demiurge
You would think the power levels of the Flash & Quicksilver would be lowkey reversed. The former has a primarily street level rogues gallery while the other is the son of an omega level mutant, the twin of the most powerful sorceress, & uncle to the reincarnation of God.
@Synsidar He's not invulnerable, and I don't believe he has a photographic memory. Idk what you're reading.
I'm not sure what you think the problem is. The character's powers present logistical issues, so the writers made sure his mutation* could accommodate. It's really that simple.
@wandamaximother@MunchkinM17 Not sure if I forgot to attach this link in my comment, or if twitter is just malfunctioning as usual-- anyways, this is what I meant to include https://t.co/RKct8yIFel
@wandamaximother@MunchkinM17 I assume you're referring to Dauterman's costume retrospectives. This page lists ten costumes for Quicksilver, and it's not even comprehensive/up-to-date. You can also include alternate realities like HoM or Ultimates which have distinct looks.
@Synsidar A) Pietro has several physical adaptions to account for this. It's not always spelled out clearly in comics, but it's been handbook-canon since the 80s.
B) The recent comics which expanded on Pietro's powers do explicitly have him defy/go beyond physics in a supernatural manner.
@RobertTalen It may be, but Zosimos is the name of a real-life historical figure who was an alchemist and gnostic mystic. Hexfinder's name is a reference to him. It's just as likely, maybe for so, that 'Magik' is just pulling from the same historical source.
@MunchkinM17 The coloring in Q:NS was intentional, but it was technically an isolated incident. With SW + SW&Q, Wanda was redesigned, and Pietro got an updated character sheet to match. These became the standard reference for editorial, and the change was reflected across the board.
