England haven’t been convincing so far, but without players born outside the UK or with at least 1 parent or grandparent born abroad, we wouldn’t still be here. And today, we’d be down to just 3 players.

Think how much better the NHS would be now if it had benefited from the same level of funding as comparative European countries throughout its history, with a stable structure, proper investment in infrastructure and public health, and a workforce plan decades ago. Instead, we’ve tried to get universal healthcare on the cheap and a succession of vainglorious health secretaries have treated it like a train set, taking it apart and putting it together again to no one’s benefit. Continuous re disorganisation has caused enormous harm. It’s time to stop the structural chaos and build a recovery plan around the needs of staff and patients, with a relentless focus on preventing ill health and preventing medical harm.

A day to remember an important study that showed that asking people to GIVE brings much higher quality and safer blood than going out to buy it. In a world in which so much is for sale, this is a necessary reminder of the limitations and dangers of markets.
The moral corruption, unchallenged lying & contempt for standards brought in by Boris Johnson might be more shocking, but the consequential promotion of incompetents & nincompoops will arguably be more damaging in the long term.
Last night a serving probation officer called my @LBC show to say he and his colleagues laughed out loud when they heard Rishi Sunak claim that violent offenders won’t be released from prison early. Why? Because they had in front of them a list of domestic abusers set to be released from prison early.
So was the PM mistaken about the policy or does the government not consider domestic violence to be serious violence any more?

@GreenJennyJones@ScarthLloyd Criminalising destitution is not the way to address homelessness. The money used processing and imprisoning (fine defaulters) could be used instead to provide accommodation.
