There are Bahujan communities who have worked as midwives for generations and yet they aren't the ones who make policies for reproductive health. There are Adivasi communities who have preserved forests for ages and yet they aren't the ones formulating environmental policies.
The most important thing the government should have done post covid and a draconian lockdown is to collect national level reliable data (by well paid and trained field researchers) on health, nutrition, education, economic, livelihood and social indicators.
And undo the damage.
