@teortaxesTex This might be an overplayed or imagined angle too, but it’s hard not to see it as at least a piece of the calculus here

@tenobrus The split I see here is along base capabilities vs integration. On capabilities alone all of that holds, but it hits a wall real quick.
Integration is where the value happens and compounds via tight feedback loops
@tenobrus In short, there’s a level of assumed incompetence and even pity (disdain?) over what We (aka a joined US Gov & Frontier Lab symbiote) can even do with frontier models re gestalt integration and feedback loops where it doesn’t even click as a threat. And via all that, it’s a flex
@tenobrus We’re hitting the level where both the ability to and gains from prompt one-shotting a particular problem diverge from the much stronger, long-term impacts of having a ~frontier model properly integrated into your entire workflow
@AmeliaBarty Sure. It’s just not correct in any way that matters beyond general icks at a successful young person living out the objectively ~wild life he’s so far earned
The main appeal of Dwarkesh over alternatives like TBPN, MTS pod, MoTS, and various e-girl VC podcasts was the perception that he was a serious person asking serious questions from a neutral third-party POV
Recent developments are seriously diluting his brand
- Leaning into bro culture with his gym collab videos
- Bragging about his connections in the Valley, like how he’s roommates with Sholto Douglas and Dylan Patel
- Shilling his angel investments
He became famous because he was a humble, curious kid and everyone could see themselves in him
Now he’s schmoozing with the tech elite and has zero self-awareness
Wouldn’t be surprised if another podcaster displaces him soon
That people are talking themselves into rooting for England for vaguely leftist reasons is probably the best indication that the UK is now an emerging market
@samzliu This really boils down to the kind of technical work though. If they’re random one-off projects handed down by some kind of management, then yeah it’s gonna feel pretty soulless at some point. If it’s a long-term, complex problem you care about then that changes everything
