This custom actually did make it into the collection though, which I would know as I am the owner of this grail. If you look closely you'll spot a few minor differences, but this monke is unique in that it is a true 1:1, backed up by some history to boot.

Some more history on this unique piece. The OG team each had customs they made for themselves that were not part of the Gen2 collection. This particular monke was @Kharn_NFT original custom, before he had another created that he used.

Fun Fact. The first ever "SMB" titled NFT isn't officially part of the Gen2 collection. Possibly an initial test mint. It was the #22,142 NFT minted on Solana on July 26th 2021. Hat tip to @timontheog for the research.

They were put back on sale at a later date after Gen2 was conceived of, and with the royalties distribution as a selling point. But as a bonus to those of us that minted the originals just cuz we love teh monke, 9 of these bad boys were created. Only an elite few still hold them.

The story on these goes back even further. They originally minted on a Serum market on June 25th of 2021. At that time there was no royalty distribution planned because Gen2 wasn't yet conceived of. Only 9 original sets were completed.
