It's funny because the planets are close to their stars...so they're crispy (or at least would be if they weren't gas giants)...and I'm crispy..........yea
paper day! 🥳
we tried @astrobites lesson plans with a bunch of students to see how it affected them (hint: it was good!)
students felt better about reading research literature afterwards, plus lots of other positive effects as described in our paper: https://t.co/Do9hpsHIzz
From @EricaSawczynec: As astronomers, many of our lives have been touched by the islands of Hawaiʻi & now it’s our kuleana (responsibility) to show up for the Hawaiʻi community when they need us most.

@NOIRLabAstro I have the perfect kitty for this thread. This is Cecilia (Payne-Gaposchkat), and we found her in the parking lot of our physics building during a remote run on DECam.
Hi Twitter folks, I've made a comic/illustrations for the first time about the recent detection of gravitational wave background by @NANOGrav and other PTAs.
In eight new papers, @NANOGrav presents evidence for a gravitational wave background. In this bite, we provide an overview of their results and their implications #pulsartimingarrays#GravitationalWaves

From Guest: When harassers coauthor papers, the community suffers, but nobody is more affected than the Early Career Researchers within those groups. This is how we, the ECRs within the California Planet Search, have tackled the recent authorship debacle.

Day 70: the one where businessinsider Netherlands says "Elon Musk’s Starlink satellites are ruining images from NASA’s Hubble Space Telescope, threatening future science"
(Cross-posted from BAAS) Early-career astronomer @FloorAstro tackles harassment in astronomy and offers 10 ways the field can improve access to support resources https://t.co/05f2WgZYGy
Harassment experiences are common in Astronomy but navigating them can be a nightmare...♥️
Here are 10 ways we can improve support resources in astronomy 👇♥️

If anybody has any book recommendations… Don’t have a specific topic in mind, just want to fill holes in general. This tweet has been brought to you by the natural cubic spline, though.
Doing a dual major in math in undergrad has been like…0% useful for me in astronomy. I’ve never once used abstract algebra, complex analysis, or real analysis outside of core physics courses, but I sure could’ve used more statistics classes and numerical analysis 🥲
From @jkcalahan: The graduate students at the University of Michigan have been on strike for nearly a month now. This bite explains the history, recent updates, and how you can help support teachers, students, and researchers. https://t.co/EPfDMFfcdV
well. @UMich has officially docked all pay but $100 for april from its grad workers, putting many of us in a position of dangerous financial precarity. friends/allies, please consider donating to @geo3550 strike fund at https://t.co/NlE4QIQXh6. we need all the help we can get ✊
This is absolutely ridiculous -- a company wants to launch satellites so people can buy artificial shooting stars. The last thing we need is more space junk & threats to the night sky.
