What is the point of this?! There’s no decorum in these hearings. There’s no truth being revealed. Because it’s nothing more than people interrupting and shouting over each other so they can make their statements, not answer questions.

We all lose as a result.

NEW: Sen Josh Hawley points at Minnesota AG Keith Ellison and calls for him to be indicted during an explosive exchange over Minnesota fraud.

Hawley shredded Ellison for allegedly helping fraudsters steal $9B from Minnesota & called for him to be thrown in prison.

James Van Der Beek passed away today.

I’m a healthcare guy and I post about healthcare.

Now I want to talk about James.

He was special, he was 48 years old, a Father of six, a Husband. He was man who spent his final chapter teaching the ultimate guide to real life.

James was part of my growing up. Dawson’s Creek. Varsity Blues. The 90s. He was just there, woven into the background.

What he did over the last few years was bigger than any of that. He recorded a video on his last birthday.

Cancer had taken everything he used to define himself. He couldn’t be the husband who helped around the house.

He couldn’t pick up his kids and carry them to bed. He couldn’t work.

He was too weak to prune the trees on his own property. And he sat with that.

He asked himself the question most of us spend a lifetime avoiding: If I am none of the things I do, who am I?

His answer was simple.
Devastating. Beautiful.

“I am worthy of God’s love simply because I exist. And if I’m worthy of God’s love, shouldn’t I also be worthy of my own?”

That’s it.
That’s the whole thing.

We spend our careers building identities around what we produce, what we control, and what we can point to.

And then life has a way of stripping it all down to the studs. James Van Der Beek faced that moment with the courage.

He said cancer was the best thing that ever happened to him because it taught him how to live.

He left behind his wife, Kimberly, six children, and a message that every father, husband, and man chasing the next thing needs to sit with.

Well, there you have it.

On the same day Mayor Johnson agrees not to veto a budget that secures a CTU contract bailout, he returns to signing off on meaningless executive orders in a flimsy attempt to reassert himself as politically relevant.

Johnson’s latest gambit limits CPD “Overtime Spending”. More theatrics, the Mayor’s Office already exercises complete control over CPD Overtime Spending.

Johnson obviously took the step not only create the impression he is taking action to control spending, but also for the purpose of appeasing his core supporters, the defund-the-police bloc.

Remember, CPD Overtime Spending is $150 -200 million higher annually than in 2019 because Chicago has over 1,700 fewer cops. Johnson himself eliminated 833 CPD officer positions.

The consequences of CPD shortages are significant: Even with higher Overtime Spending, police officer shortages have led to half of high-priority 911 calls with no police car available to respond and record low arrest rates.

Yet, Johnson continues to insist public safety is his “number on priority.”

The 340B program offers a fascinating case study in unintended consequences.

The idea in 1992: give safety-net hospitals discounts on drugs so they can serve the poor. Reasonable goal.

The reality: health systems buy drugs at steep discounts, bill insurance at full price, and pocket the spread.

They use the profits for expansion, real estate, anything but charity care.

Meanwhile, independent doctors who actually serve low-income communities can’t access the program.

Why this outcome?
Because we created a profit opportunity and didn’t restrict how the profits could be used.

Health Systems responded exactly as economics would predict.

The question isn’t whether hospitals are greedy.

The question is: what system would actually serve patients?

Subsidies flowing through hospital monopolies, or direct support to people who need care?

Bill Maher laments that Democrats believed the best way to prove Charlie Kirk wrong was to eliminate him from the planet.

He watched the videos of people cheering his death and had just two words for them: “You’re gross.”

Now he says the real war isn’t left vs. right, but something else entirely.

“[Charlie Kirk] was shot under a banner that said, ‘prove me wrong.’ Because he was a debater. So the people who mocked his death or justified it, I think you’re gross. I have no use for you. The people who are saying, now ‘we’re at war,’ I have no use for you.
