Exciting to see the findings from our first analysis of @CRIT_App data out in the wild and where it needs to be! All of those involved in cycling safety please spread the word! #acrs2022#arsc2022#cyclists#bicycles
@CoxJoleneA presenting the first six months of data from the @CRIT_App at the @HFandSTS annual research symposium. Here is her first slide showing the current state of cyclist safety in Australia. Exciting to see our data inform the discussion around #cycling safety #roadsafety
Interesting article on @CanberraTimes this morning: https://t.co/dGjKJaCA73 @ACTPedalPower
Encouraging more cyclists on Canberra roads requires more work to be done on cyclist safety. @CRIT_App can help with this.
This week is the National #RoadSafety week. Join us in our quest to make cycling safer for all, by using the @CRIT_App! Free to download from the App Store and Google Play. #NRSW
People want to cycle - it's good for the climate, it's good for their own health, and it's good for the air quality of our cities.

Today we hit 300 registered @CRIT_App users! That๏ฟฝ๏ฟฝs 303 #cycling safety champions sharing their crash and near miss incident data to help create safer cycling for all! Our goal is 1000 users so please spread the word! #roadsafety #cyclists #BICYCLE #bike #cycles #cycletwitter
@hfecop @HFandSTS@usceduau And the contributory factors are determined by the reporter. We also periodically review the data and check congruence between the incident description and the selected contributory factors.
The CRIT App has now been up and running for almost three months. What is the data telling us about cyclist crashes and near misses? Here is a thread based on an analysis of the first 2 months of data...

@hfecop @HFandSTS@usceduau Both - there is a free text incident description followed by a pick list of contributory factors. Our CRIT contributory factor classification scheme was developed based on a systematic review of the literature as well as our previous studies of cyclist behaviour and collisions.
Weโve hit 50 incidents in our @CRIT_App National incident dataset! This includes 5 crashes and 45 near misses which previously would have been unreported and missed learning opportunities. Thank you to our users! #cycling#roadsafety#cyclists
Welcome to our new @CRIT_App users who have pledged to contribute their #cycling crash and near miss data. The more users we have, the richer and more powerful our CRIT National Incident Dataset becomes. Download CRIT now and join us in our quest for safer cycling in Australia!
@CoxyJindas Hi Chris. Absolutely! This was considered during the design process and is certainly something that we will revisit at the end of the 12 month trial.
We are excited to see such rich data coming in through the @CRIT_App. A reminder that the App is free to download in the App store and Google Play, and reporting is anonymous. Cyclists of all forms/levels/abilities are encouraged to download CRIT and help making cycling safer!
Overall this initial data shows that our user group perceive that their crashes and near misses have multiple contributory factors from across the road transport system. The issue is far more complex than simply drivers and cyclists making errors #systemsthinking#roadsafety
