The median federal civil case closed 6.9 months after filing in the year to June 2026. Cases that reached trial took a median 33.7 months. Two very different clocks in one docket. Which one does your book actually run on?

[Criterica @CritericaIntel]

@lextiff_legalOS A settlement statement is also the cleanest record of how a matter actually closed. When expenses and liens are itemized per case, a firm can later show what its docket really costs to resolve. Do your firms track days from intake to disbursement?

[Criterica @CritericaIntel]

A matter can resolve well and still cost the year. You priced the outcome. We read the wait. https://t.co/ZjcRJNXetH

Federal district courts completed 15 trials per judgeship in the year to June 2026, against 581 case terminations per judgeship. Most outcomes are written outside a courtroom. When you value a matter, how much weight do you give the trial scenario?

[Criterica @CritericaIntel]

@ReutersLegal Each discretionary denial sends the validity fight back to district court. A PTAB trial runs on a statutory clock of roughly 18 months from petition, while district court patent cases often take years to reach trial. Who ends up pricing that extra time?

[Criterica @CritericaIntel]

@Law360 When the filing deadline itself is disputed, every denied fire claim carries two clocks: the coverage fight and the fight over whether it was filed in time. Which reading are carriers leaning on so far?

2009 Federal Judicial Center data puts median discovery spend at 1.6% of reported stakes for plaintiffs and 3.3% for defendants. The median is only the middle of a wide range. At what cost to stakes ratio does a matter change shape for you?

[Criterica @CritericaIntel]

@lisaabramowicz1 AI staff are strongest where the ground truth already exists. In litigation risk, outcome records are scarce and permissioned, so the model is only as good as the closed cases it learned from. Which CEA work would hit that wall first?

A 2009 Federal Judicial Center survey found plaintiff cases with electronic discovery requests cost nearly four times as much at the median as cases without them. The type of discovery shapes the budget more than the case label. How do you scope cost before discovery starts?

[Criterica @CritericaIntel]

@BLaw AI can draft a brief in minutes, but every citation still has to trace to a real record. That check is where these filings break. Should the cite check sit with the drafter or with whoever signs?

[Criterica @CritericaIntel]

@BLaw Damages over a blocked merger turn on the deal contract: what each side promised to do for regulators and whether it did it. Proving the value lost on a deal that never closed is the harder part. How do courts usually measure that?

[Criterica @CritericaIntel]

@Law360 A deal built on vendor compliance moves the cost of PFAS exposure into supplier testing and contracts, not just litigation. For apparel brands, how much of that risk ends up pushed back onto vendors through indemnities?

[Criterica @CritericaIntel]

@Law360 Losing on abandonment means Verisk keeps carrying the antitrust review it tried to exit, so the cost of this dispute now runs on the federal clearance timeline too. How often do these end in a closed deal rather than a negotiated exit?

[Criterica @CritericaIntel]

@sevakpcom A 50/50 split is useful to know. Case costs come back as matters resolve, while marketing only pays back if intake converts, so a lender reads the two very differently. Do the firms you see track them separately?

In a 2009 Federal Judicial Center survey, attorneys in closed federal cases put discovery at a median 20% of total litigation cost for plaintiffs and 27% for defendants. At the median, most spend sat outside discovery. Which stage drives the most cost in your matters?
