I told a "liberal" peer a few years ago, "why are we operating under the assumption that liberals are not racist?" There is simply no space in DEI for racist and oppressive viewpoints, regardless of politics. You have the whole rest of campus to do that and have for centuries.
Conservative profs are fighting back against "liberal" or "woke" efforts on campuses, not realizing that liberals/Democrats have always been a part of White supremacy. We're not interested in centrist liberals who are not truly anti-racist and anti-capitalist.
I've been hearing more and more that DEI committees need to include diverse perspectives (meaning to include racist ones) and this is so misaligned with the purpose, I don't even know where to start.
Crisis averted! We convinced our regents and state legislature that our DEI efforts were completely ineffective and only really served as window dressing. We can continue as before!
No graduate student worker should be living in poverty while the University of Michigan sits atop a $17 billion endowment. These 2,500 workers deserve safe working conditions and living wages. The University must bargain a fair contract immediately.
Striking grads are rallying outside the @UMichgradschool. Rackham needs to pay grads a living wage, not just line the pockets of fat cat admin!
You don't mess with GEO!
@Nouronal Everything in life is defined in relation to PhD. Everyone who is not planning on pursuing a PhD is considered pre-doc by academics. Literally 98% of society is pre-doc.
If “your RA”:
* conducted your literature review
* spent months on location collecting data
* wrote tons of code cleaning or analyzing your data
* did all the time consuming things you did not have time for
They deserve to be a co-author, not a thank you footnote!
@Riginal_Zen@ziibiing Agree! I also keep everyone's stuff in the shower except mine. They don't need to know what they're missing out on 🤣 - just leads to less awkward convos but you will have to bring it whenever you shower. I keep mine in the vanity cabinet.
@Nouronal I always found it astonishing how much pressure a colleague of mine felt to drink, while being a recovering alcoholic. It was actually EASIER for me to say, at an event, "I don't drink for religious reasons" than for her to out her addiction.
