George R.R. Martin on his “abysmal” relationship with ‘HOUSE OF THE DRAGON’ showrunner Ryan Condal:

“It’s worse than rocky. It’s abysmal. I hired Ryan. I thought Ryan and I were partners. And we were all through the first season. I would read early drafts of the scripts. I would give notes. He would change some things. It was working really well — I thought.

Then we got into season two, and he basically stopped listening to me. I would give notes, and nothing would happen. Sometimes he would explain why he wasn’t doing it. Other times, he would tell me, ‘Oh, OK, yeah, I’ll think about that.’ It got worse and worse, and I began to get more and more annoyed. Finally, it got to a point where I was told by HBO that I should submit all my notes to them and they would give Ryan our combined notes.”

@stevendeknight @STARZ House of Ashur: great visuals, gladiator spirit & intrigue, but the “What If?” didn’t work for me. Why not explore Titus’ champions with young Oenomaus & Quintus / Gannicus before Gods of the Arena/ or years before Blood and Sand? Don’t abandon Spartacus 🙏

House of the Dragon was at its best when Miguel Sapochnik was showrunner alongside Ryan Condal. I'm not dismissing Seasons 2 and 3 entirely but there was a noticeable drop in quality after Season 1.

La saison 3 de House of the Dragon devient pénible. La série perd son temps depuis plusieurs épisodes alors qu'elle a tant à raconter. L'écriture manque de finesse. Les modifications par rapport au livre continuent d'être légion et laissent perplexe. Un peu la douche froide.

C'est fascinant House of the Dragon. Ils n'ont que 2 saisons pour adapter l'essentiel d'un récit mouvementé et ils trouvent le moyen de s'engluer 4 épisodes, tout en flinguant certaines grosses surprises à venir. La série n'est pas mauvaise, mais l'adaptation est très décevante.
