Soluble immune mediators, that were associated with HBV activity affected pathways such as JAK-STAT and the Th17/IL-17 axis, both closely linked to fibrogenesis and liver cirrhosis.

We now demonstrate that HBV activity seems to play a major role in this condition, regardless of the usual consideration as a stealth virus. HBV activity was in our study associated with higher expression of soluble immune mediators.
HBV and HCV coinfection is a rare condition, especially prevalent in high risk groups for infection. It goes along with an even higher cirrhosis risk than each mono infection on its own.

-Altered Cytokines were linked to fibrosis and carcinogenesis
💡The search for a predictive HCC biomarker continues. Novel multidimensional approaches combining biomarkers and clinical characteristics might improve results based on machine learning algorithms. But validation in real world cohorts is lacking and needs further investigation.

💊Treatment of HCV led to a decrease of S2-bound AGP. Additionally, S2-bound AGP levels were associated with liver fibrosis and inflammation. Patients with chronic hepatitis B virus infection and metabolically associated steatotic liver disease showed low levels of S2-bound AGP.
