I suspect Jack Smith didn’t back off but rather, made the decision that he didn’t need the telco traffic for your Senate line, when he already had your cell phone call records.

You weren’t on the Senate floor speaking in your legislative duties.
You weren’t voting on legislation.
You weren’t in committee hearings doing the work of the people.
All of which are covered by the Speech&Debate Clause.

No no… you were participating in Trumps attempt to overthrow an election by means of fraudulent electoral electors and you and your colleagues were in cell phone communications with Trump to do just that.

Criminal conduct is not a legislative act.
The Speech and Debate Clause doesn’t cover political or private actions of Senators.
