@TaylorTwellman You have to institute an immediate red card rule for “fakery” like this. Hand out a few in meaningful games… all of the sudden this kind of shit stops in a hurry.
@MichaelRedd_ Doesn’t work that way in soccer because college soccer doesn’t pay and MLS pays shit compared to top Euro leagues. So there’s no expectation of reciprocity. IE sneaker companies won’t make their money back on American star soccer players. Because our domestic league sucks.
@Da_monk23@thealexiskraft You’re joking right? He’s the only player that showed any heart the last 30 minutes. You’re right, he might only be the 18th best player on the roster…but he was fighting. Our “stars” checked out.
@AlexiLalas I’m a free market capitalist as well. But it’s worth noting that free markets fail consumers all the time. Whether it’s price discrimination, monopoly, or collusion… free markets can and do fail consumers under certain circumstances.
@Johnubacon I should add too… most importantly you have a subject for your next book. UM athletic department is the gift that keeps on giving for you. 😂
@Johnubacon We can only think logically here. They must be feverishly negotiating exits for Warde and his key people. You don’t spend 12 million on a report to then say… “shit, everything looks good here. Keep up the good work.” This must be the reason for delay.
@AlexiLalas Bifurcate it. Local clubs clearly prep you for college play at best… and 1 in 10k for MLS and 1 in a million for overseas leagues. It’s on GIANT academies (like the euro system) to identify and sponsor and train the elite. Like Barca or Real or Liverpool does. MLS needs to do it
@AlexiLalas Successful teams that pay for successful academies, IE the Euro model. But we don’t got it. Avg. EPL team makes 5x the revenue of avg. MLS team. MLS sucks. Only when that league becomes a true destination league will USA be good at soccer. Not even close to apples to apples.
@AlexiLalas It ain’t that deep. Big clubs in Europe pay the best kids (or at least let them play for free) because the top clubs are worth billions. Because the top euro leagues earn many more billions than the MLS does, so those clubs have more money. Make MLS #1 league, rest will follow.
@AlexiLalas@talmonsmith How do the European big club academies pay for it? Oh yeah because their leagues crush the MLS and produce enough revenue for them to pump it back into their academies. We need to focus on the MLS not being such a joke. Pay players, attract the best rosters in the world. $$$
