The second best season in #Flames history deserves to be remembered for the incredible experience it was. I tried to capture the magic. Here's my tribute video montage to the 2018/19 Calgary Flames.
Hope you enjoy watching it as much as I did making it. https://t.co/GF1LtLs4e8
I'd be interested in SEA's Carson Soucy if I were the #Flames today.
6'5 and moves well + good relative underlying numbers on a bad team. He's signed next season at 2.75M, so a 3rd team would also need to retain $, which is dicey.
But, depth + replacement for Zadorov next year.
Given everybody and their dog is looking for depth defenceman, acquiring him outright would be tough enough, but to get Seattle AND someone else retain salary through next season would likely cost a lot.
If they're willing to spend the assets though, it appears a great fit.
If the #Flames do land Eichel, I see two certainties:
Monahan is involved (duh), but also: someone other than Eichel is coming back.
CGY is competitive and can't afford to kneecap themselves for 3 months, especially since one or both of Valimaki and Dube would also depart.
@mikeFAIL I mused about Girgensons since he's a cheap-ish big body that can move and theoretically fill in Dube's role, should he be part of the return.
I just imagine Sutter is involved in these discussions at some level and will want to ensure his roster isn't gutted.
@mikeFAIL Hinostroza would be great, but reading news out of BUFF, it seems he's been key to their early success so I doubt they move him. Not a ton of useful fwds so I figured a proven NHLer, like Sutter likes, would be targeted.
Pysyk could be a decent, inexpensive target actually!
I'm also not necessarily supporting this idea, I'm just certain the #Flames won't completely torpedo their depth for a guy who won't play until at least February given their start to the season.
It'll be Eichel and someone else if it does happen.
I could see them liking a Zemgus Girgensons or Cody Eakin up front, and perhaps a Robert Hagg on defence.
It's not sexy, but they're relatively cheap NHLers that the #Flames would need.
No sense trading for Eichel just to torpedo a great start to the season.
