@GardenerFliss @scottylar I am a shepherdess in North Yorkshire with 85 ewes of various breeds. I would love to find a purpose for our wool, currently I sell the best fleeces privately to crafters, but I would love it to be turned into fabric and ultimately clothing!

A facebook memory popped up today. 8 years ago, gathering Mardale common, Brandstree and Thornthwaite flocks of Cheviot sheep and Swindales flock of Swales. At the time, we gathered around 800 Chivs to shear and 300 swales. These used to be tremendous sheep, the fell was a very good grazing fell. Today, the same lump of ground is grazed by 20 cattle part time. No sheep other than strays. It’s such a shame that environmental payments (tax payer funded) is driving this. With all the wildfires around at the moment you must surely stop and think, if we carry on like this in the Lakes, we are creating a tinder box with no firebrakes?

@SamaHoole @Hebrideanrefurb I sort through my raw fleeces and sell them to crafters across the UK. It takes a lot of time and I get funny looks at the post office but it pays for our shearing and a little bit extra to go into the farm.

@07Maggi @Sainburyscs @sainsburys Many many years ago my grandad got a fine for overstaying in our Morrisons car park. He had done his shop and went to the cafe for his lunch but service was very slow. I complained, they overturned his fine and increased the stay time by an hour!

@Normanjam67 My Nana still gets a paper delivery and milk delivered in North Yorkshire. She doesn’t drive so it does help. Her butcher also delivers as well (it was my Grandad’s business and she does still own the building tho)

@robprogressive Being a landlord helps me not have to work full time so I can spend more time on our farm. My margin is tiny on my house but it just helps that little bit.
