Hello friends in Fl, GA, and the Carolinas. I have a cousin in PR who desperately needs O Negative blood donations. If you, or folks you know, are able to donate, please have them reach out to me directly. Please help share the post.
Thank you! 🙏🏼
Asking for support on behalf of @civicnewsguild and our contract negotiations with management @CivicNewsCo. Show @Chalkbeat and @VotebeatUS that journalists, story editors and the picture editor (me) deserve a fair contract, sick days, pay that tries to keep up w/ inflation.
Last month, I had emergency surgery that meant suddenly taking two weeks off of work. With protected sick days, I wouldn’t have to worry about losing vacation days.
And rest/vacation is so important for mental health especially during the wild election year we’re going to have.
My one year at @CivicNewsCo is marked by contract negotiations because like what my colleague @sammie_smylie said, there is a very clear mismatch between value & practice. #1u#faircontract
As one of the few Black journalists at Civic News Company, it feels demoralizing to work at a place where there is a clear mismatch between value & practice.
The only people that have my back is my union b/c they always fight for me and the contract proposals prove it. #1u
Instead of celebrating my 1st yr at @CivicNewsCo, our union is bargaining for a fair contract. Disappointed in management and wondering why there's such a huge pushback when the pay disparity is outrageous. Read more below on what we're fighting for! #1u#faircontractnow
(1/6) Civic News Guild’s contract will expire on June 30. Without it, our unit will work w/o protections that we fought for 3 years ago. Our bargaining team has been meeting w/ @CivicNewsCo to create a fair contract for workers. Here is what we’re fighting for:
Hey management at @CivicNewsCo, I hope to hear better news about bargaining ASAP. And why is there so much push back on our contract? Don't you want the people that make @Chalkbeat and @VotebeatUS run to be treated fairly?
Our members at @Chalkbeat and @VotebeatUS are ready to bargain a fair second contract NOW — but management at @CivicNewsCo has only given us TWO bargaining dates before the current contract expires on June 30.

Beautiful story from @kalynbelsha about what happened when Cincinnati Public Schools poured resources into helping homeless families find shelter. The money to support these efforts goes away next year. https://t.co/67Io8cqLWk #tellEWA#edchat Photos by @cromiee

Elena Milashina is one of us. She is among the bravest of journalists. She is a friend and beloved colleague. This vicious attack must rally us all. As our dear Elana would tell us, there is work to do.

After years of covering the Gaza Strip as a freelance photojournalist for the New York Times, I was informed via an abrupt phone call from the US outlet that they will no longer work with me in the future.
