Prodigal America turned away from her God in the name of pursuing high-minded secularism, devoted to general decency all around, but without reference to any outside authority. We can be good in our own name, for our own sakes. And yet here we are, at one in the morning, in another dive bar, hoping that the Fed will buy us another round. I merely put it forward . . . we are kind of finding out what that looks like in this, our current moment. And by “current moment,” I mean this mash-up of a Chinese fire drill and a cafeteria food fight in an asylum for the criminally insane, with an MSNBC anchor solemnly opining in the background how good it is to have the adults back in charge.
