You are not a good person.

I am not a good person.

We can convince ourselves we are good by comparing ourselves with someone worse, but that does not change who we are by nature.

Yet, God made a way for our natures to change.

All of us, like sheep, have gone astray, Each of us has turned to his own way; But the LORD has caused the wrongdoing of us all To fall on Him. Isaiah 53:6

God's love is so big that Jesus laid His life down in order to save us from our own sin. He gifted us His goodness in place of our own.

The stroke of justice fell upon Jesus so that our names could be cleared.

Instead of saying "at least I'm better than them," we should say "thank You God for saving me. Help them to receive your mercy too."

The same way we have been shown mercy, we ought to show mercy to others.

And through the help of the Holy Spirit we don't have to walk in the old nature. We get to walk in the new nature Christ provides.

My stomach gets tied up in knots when I hear good Bible teachers preaching legalism instead of freedom in Christ through His finished work.

I remember what it was like to be bound by traditions created by people instead of being set free by God’s grace to obey the Holy Spirit.

I never want to go back to legalism.

We need good, solid Bible teaching, but we also need a reformation back to the new covenant and the law of liberty the Word teaches instead of the weight of the Law of Moses or the laws of man.

“You have been severed from Christ, you who are seeking to be justified by the Law; you have fallen from grace. For we, through the Spirit, by faith, are waiting for the hope of righteousness.”

“But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the Law.”

Galatians 5:4-5, 18

If Christ has set you free, you are free indeed. Walk in that freedom. Base you life on the gospel and the Word. Obey the Holy Spirit. But don’t go back under a yoke God did not put you under.
