@frooster96@DrStorm44 that was early on before sales exploded. companies were understandably hesitant to throw money at porting their games to a post wii u nintendo home console, esp one that was once again way less powerful than its contemporaries in the same gen
@nitzukai@sosonosonosono fr like what do ppl expect lmao. there’s nothing else w all the tools and knowledge base to build a game like this in a reasonable amount of time
@the_HUGOAT@thealaroundnerd your problem is thinking they were both attempting the same style. screamer is anime inspired, unbound was going for a graffiti influenced mixed media look
@MarsResident027@LittleBigSpikey yall want an action racing game like nfs w cops and shit but then want it to be a sim? it would be doa for anyone w/o a wheel
@BibiiQLF@LittleBigSpikey what else are they supposed to use as a new studio making a big new open world game? nothing else on the market fulfills what you need to build such a game, and a custom engine is out of the question for budget, time and staff concerns
@soupisgood@mattsutaaki you can use volumetric clouds but ofc there’s a perf cost to that over basically just playing back a timelapse in the bg. they also just don’t look as good as the real sky yet
@Jorazon1@nocntxtreplyguy@mattsutaaki real genius here thinks it’s a 2gb texture. the reason it’s that large is bc it’s basically a hires timelapse of the sky on location. other games either have static skyboxes or use volumetric clouds which are more perf heavy and still don’t look as good
@itstime2dddduel@NapTownRabbi@LordofCinder24 idek why it became such a common “own” when every single person saying it has def screenshotted endless shit esp their reply when it gets 20k likes for no fkn reason
@GeneralMyke74@DrDornonLive@SaccharineDawn lmao it’s exactly like that. if one place doesn’t have what you want you go to another. ffs this is the whole basis for consoles and their exclusives, and that ecosystem has a buy in cost (multiple w paid online) unlike pc where all that changes is where you dl shit from
@Gaming4all98@itsdivvaylol this wasn’t really a huge problem in arcade racers till forza decided every single fucking prop needed to be breakable. like why even have guardrails if they’re not even gonna do the one thing they’re meant to do
@banana_catfish@JermSeventy@AceRengierof yeah bc there’s hardly anything in there. the map is relatively small, there’s tons of low quality assets and reuse bc they can get away w it in the dark, and the car list is small
