New report: https://t.co/TwWp0CxunS 200A panels should be OK for most homes to fully electrify, including #EVs. What about smaller panels? A 20kW draw is the level when a 100A panel may need to be upgraded. For 400 homes from 2020–22, homes rarely hit it (0.001% of the time).
A warm welcome to our new CEO. We’re thrilled Dr. Anissa Rodriguez Dickerman is joining the team, and we can’t wait to get going! https://t.co/FgDy8p5HrJ
Texans could use 35% less energy to keep their homes cool during our brutal summers. Really. Our analysis provides some real-world numbers to the potential of smarter cooling. All the tech we need is already available. We just need to use it.

OK - just learned that heat pump clothes dryers are a thing, and supposedly use 50% of the energy of an electric resistance dryer. And, apparently some run off 120V. WTF? How am I just hearing about this given half of my feed is about heat pumps?
#HVAC systems are meant to cycle on and off at regular intervals once a thermostat setpoint is reached. Undersized HVACs (or leaky homes) can cause systems to run continuously for hours when it’s hot outside. #COTW#energy
We may not think about them often, but refrigerators use a lot of electricity. The shorter and more efficient each cooling cycle, the less energy is used. An efficient fridge can save you money on your energy bill. #COTW#energyefficiency
To reduce energy waste, check/replace the gaskets around the door & avoid placing it near a heat source (oven or window). If everything seems air-tight and it runs constantly, it might need a repair or replacement. #COTW#energyefficiency
1/ Our Data Analyst @cmerski is speaking at @IEEEorg Rural Electric Power Conference today about #EV charging. Perfect timing for our #COTW, which shows how EVs could push homes to upgrade their electric panels. Or..maybe not. See https://t.co/qIT6JSWBwi for a deeper dive.
Not all EV charging is equal. The charge rate of EV batteries changes depending on the model of the vehicle and the home charger. Let’s take a look. See more at https://t.co/ktmb4aXxzq #energytwitter#cotw#electricvehicles

So?? Homeowners can and will adapt charging habits without strong incentives. The right integration technology and rate structures can scale this trend & allow EVs to use excess solar AND power AC systems during hot & cold weather when the grid is stressed. #solar#EV#grid
Home B often charges during the day or after work during winter and shoulder seasons. Charging an EV when solar production exceeds home load is smart. On hot TX summer afternoons, solar powers the AC system; the owner shifts EV charging to early morning. #solar#EV#grid
Home A consistently charges overnight which is preferable in TX. On average, the home produces almost enough solar to cool the home during hot summer afternoons. Note: there is no EV charging during peak demand hours to add more stress to the grid. #solar#EV#grid
This week’s chart: 2 Austin homes with EVs and solar, which show seasonal relationships bt EV charging, home load and solar. EVs will be the largest & most flexible home load. Managed well they will improve home energy performance and grid resilience. #solar#EV#grid
