21 year old Wiltshire birder & naturalist - tweets from village patch of Shrewton, Salisbury plain, Wiltshire and surrounding areas, with the odd twitch & trip
Brilliant evening with Matt on Saturday.
Really unique way to ring and survey birds, with incredible results and the ability to see very special birds up close!
Last night I gave a thermal imaging demonstration to youth members of @WiltsBirdClub. This stunning Golden Plover was the star of the evening. The enthusiasm of these youngsters is unbelievable. I am going to have to take them out again!
Nice post-work owling session with @NZsbiggestyear on Monday! Can never complain when seeing Owls on the Plain🦉
1 Little Owl, 2 Barn Owl and 3 Tawny Owl made a productive evening and a satisfying count. See here for Harry’s nice video on it too: https://t.co/HEJf4gsC4m
Weekend of WOS events:
Sat AM was a WOS Youth ringing demo. Seeing Firecrest and Bullfinch in the hand was brilliant, as was seeing youngsters enthused. Thanks @jonny_goes_wild!
Today was a damp but productive Woodford Valley walk, best being Merlin - https://t.co/SagmStiC3S

Bits from the weekend:
Changing seasons with the 1st Redwing for Wilts on my nocmig on the 8th and my 1st Golden Plover flock today.
A big group of 24 Stone Curlew was also great to see at @Natures_Voice Winterbourne Down and there was 3 GWE, 5 Wigeon + 3 Corn Bunt at Fonthill
Nothing from stateside this weekend, but please with a Hobby dashing through as a second patch record! Of course no photos so enjoy the regulars. Who needs funky warblers anyway..?
Small uptick in Snipe (9) & Teal (29) + an increase in wildfowl numbers at Langford Lakes too
3 sites hit on a trip back from the south coast today. Initially there was very little moving around Worth Matravers bar some auks and Siskins.
Then onto Lytchett Fields- Curlew Sand, Little Stint, 2 Grey Plover and Marsh Harrier + a new site to me!
A weekend of abundance over variety for me.
C.200 Meadow Pipit and c.100 Chiffchaff on a slow cycle around Salisbury Plain this morning. 3 Wheatear and 2 Whinchat were also inevitable at this time of year. Great to see mass Swallow and Martin migration yesterday and today too
A long anticipated return to X I’m sure… but I have been birding!
More so recently with an overnighter to Portland last week with Ruff and Little Owl and some really nice migrants, WOS Youth trips (Marsh Harrier) and autumn on my patch with the Wheatear!
50 Years of WOS! 🐦🎉
Saturday saw 100+ members celebrate our 50th anniversary with @mattthesparrow, @jonny_goes_wild & WOS Youth speaking + stories, cake & sightings. The passion for birds shone across generations! 🦅
Thanks for making us who we are! Here’s to 50 more years! 💚
The last week for me has been a roadtrip from Narvik->Trondheim, Norway with a school friend. It was an adventure to say the least, but I picked up some good birds inc 2 eagle sp, Waxwing, LT Skua + Black Woodpecker & many new breeding sp for me. A place I need to explore more!
@FrodeFalkenberg Hi Frode, currently road tripping from Narvik -> Trondheim and have seen this is en route! Would you mind sending a pin as I could be stopping there.
Equally of interest was going through both amazing and depressing Scottish landscapes and being able to see first-hand the ecological richness in both. It’s certainly an area I would love to explore in even more depth and to see positive actions being taken in.
Returning home from a mind-blowing @UniExeCEC Scottish Field Trip. A whole suite of Scottish specialities and great wildlife encounters. 115 bird sp inc Wood Warb, Black Grouse, Crested Tit, Hen Harrier, 2 Eagle sp and crippling views of all 3 diver sp.
Our four-week-old peregrine chicks have now been named! Meet Joe, Lorraine, Wilbur and Norman! 🐤
Thank you for all your submissions and we hope you will stay tuned for more peregrine updates in the weeks to come!
