PRESIDENT TINUBU CONGRATULATES EKITI GOVERNOR OYEBANJI ON RE-ELECTION VICTORY
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu congratulates Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji on his resounding victory in Saturday’s Ekiti State gubernatorial election.
The President commends the people of Ekiti State for their peaceful and orderly conduct, and for reposing their trust in Governor Oyebanji.
He also commends law enforcement agencies for maintaining law and order.
He charges the Independent National Electoral Commission to continue to invest in conducting a peaceful, free, fair and credible election as we approach the Osun governorship election in August and the general election next year.
With his overwhelming victory in the election, Oyebanji has emerged as the first governor in the history of Ekiti State to win re-election back-to-back.
President Tinubu notes that Governor Oyebanji’s first term was marked by significant strides in infrastructure, agriculture, youth employment, education, healthcare, and rural development under the BAO agenda.
The renewed mandate is therefore a clear vote of confidence in continuity, stability, and people-centred governance.
President Tinubu urges Governor Oyebanji to remain magnanimous in victory and to carry all Ekiti people along as he consolidates on his achievements in the next four years.
The President also commends all those who contested the election with the governor for exercising their democratic rights, saying it is now time to rally round Oyebanji in the task of taking Ekiti to the next level of governance.
The President reaffirms the Federal Government’s commitment to partnering with the Ekiti State Government to deliver more dividends of democracy and accelerate the Renewed Hope Agenda across Nigeria.
He prays for God’s wisdom, strength, and good health for Governor Oyebanji as he continues to serve the good people of Ekiti State.

BREAKING: The Federal High Court sitting in Lagos has declared unlawful the National Assembly’s controversial N110 billion vehicle and allowance schemes, ruling that the spending of N40 billion on 465 vehicles for lawmakers and N70 billion in support allowances for newly elected members breached procurement laws, constitutional obligations, and the public trust.
Sixteen years have passed since we lost President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, and it says a lot that, wherever you go, Nigerians still speak of him with such love and nostalgia. We lost a patriot, and I lost a dear brother.
He was a man of integrity and humility, deeply committed to peace and the well-being of everyday Nigerians. His approach to leadership continues to remind us of what true service to the nation should look like.
As we remember the late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua today, I pray that Almighty Allah (SWT) continues to grant him a place among the righteous in Aljannah Firdaus. Ameen.

“We will not submit to noise, rascality, or disobedience to lawful court orders. We must uphold democracy, respect the judiciary whether it favours us or not, and remain faithful to the principles that hold our nation together.
There is no path to national greatness except the path of building one country, one common vision, one shared future of progress and prosperity for all Nigerians. That is what Renewed Hope is about.
They cannot scare me off. I have been through this road before and, if I must walk it again and again for our country, I will. There is no better place than Nigeria, and no one will build it for us except ourselves.
I have listened. I know the journey is not easy. But I give you my word: I will not run away from this task. I will not give up. Coordinate from the ward level, act as one family, stay focused on what we promised Nigerians, and stand firm.”
This was my message to the leadership and coordinators of my Renewed Hope Ambassadors this afternoon.
God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
The work continues.

FCCPC Did Not Ban Airtime Borrowing or Data Advance Services
The attention of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission has been drawn to a series of newspaper publication and a viral anonymous post in the social media seeking to create the impression that the Commission cancelled, shut down, or banned airtime borrowing and data advance services in Nigeria.
Those claims are incorrect. The Commission has not prohibited airtime borrowing or data advance services, and no directive was issued preventing consumers from accessing lawful telecom value-added services.
Following a deluge of consumer complaints bordering on opaque charges, unexplained deductions, aggressive recovery practices, poor disclosure standards, and inadequate accountability in segments of the digital lending and advance-services market, the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission issued the DEON Consumer Lending Regulations in July 2025.
The Regulations were introduced, among other reasons, to curb the excesses of abusive service providers whose practices had generated persistent consumer harm and undermined confidence in the market.
The primary aim is to promote a fairer and more transparent system by mandating proper registration, responsible lending conduct, clear disclosure of fees and terms, accessible consumer complaint channels, data protection safeguards, stronger accountability for third-party partners, and effective regulatory oversight.
In the telecom sector, our findings indicated that some operators engaged in exclusionary third-party technical arrangements in clear disobedience to the provisions of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Act, 2018. The Regulations sought to unlock the market to allow local participants alongside foreign partners, in line with free market principles.
These measures benefit Nigerians by reducing abusive practices, improving transparency, strengthening consumer choice, and encouraging responsible innovation by legitimate operators.
We are aware that some vested interests and their foreign collaborators are opposed to the creation of safe markets and fair competition, therefore resorting to a campaign of disinformation.
Operators are expected to structure their commercial relationships in a manner consistent with Nigerian law. Commercial arrangements or outsourcing decisions do not displace competition and consumer protection obligations.
At the commencement of the framework in July 2025, affected operators were granted an initial 90-day compliance period to regularise their products, structures, and operations.
That opportunity was not utilised within the prescribed timeframe, specifically in the telecom sector. The compliance window was subsequently extended until 5 January 2026, providing additional time for alignment with applicable requirements. Despite that further extension, the necessary compliance steps were still not completed by the relevant operators.
Notwithstanding clear regulatory requirements, some operators chose to maintain the status quo by failing to register and regularise their services. In doing so, they continued operating monopolistic models that had long generated consumer complaints, including concerns relating to transparency, deductions, charges, and accountability.
Any temporary suspension, restriction, or operational change introduced by service providers should therefore be understood as a business or compliance decision by those operators, not a ban imposed by the FCCPC.
It is inaccurate to attribute avoidable disruption to regulation where regulated entities had adequate notice and sufficient opportunity to comply.
Attempts to misrepresent temporary service inconvenience as the result of lawful consumer regulation are mischievous. Nigerians deserve accurate information, not sensational claims.
Consumers and members of the public are advised to disregard false and misleading narratives on this issue...

Federal High Court bars Ondo governor Aiyedatiwa from seeking re-election in 2028
The Federal High Court sitting in Akure, Ondo State, has ruled that Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa cannot contest the 2028 governorship election, stating that doing so would exceed the constitutional limit for tenure in office.
In the judgment delivered by Justice Toyin Bolaji Adegoke, the court held that the 1999 Constitution does not permit an elected president, vice president, governor, or deputy governor to serve more than eight years in office cumulatively.
