Dr. Patrick Moore, co-founder of Greenpeace: "There are three things you need to know to know that [the climate crisis] is false."
1. "It is not too hot now. It is one of the coldest periods in the history of the Earth."
2. "CO2 is lower now in the atmosphere than it has been throughout nearly the entire history of the Earth."
3. "All the CO2 that we are putting into the atmosphere, where did it come from? How did it get in the fossil fuels? By plants pulling it out of the atmosphere, and the oceans. The plankton in the sea, the vegetation on the land, turned into coal, oil and gas."
"All we're doing is replacing CO2... If there wasn't enough CO2 for the plants, we would all die too... We are replenishing the CO2 to a much better level than it had gone down to."
A tale of 2 economies:
The stock market is forward looking and is a measure of how the market sees the future for a region or asset class.
It doesn’t care much about politics, but it does care how the decisions taken by government impact the economy.
- Last week, the leading indicator in the UK, the FTSE 100, fell 1.5%.
- In the same week, the leading indicator in the US, the S&P 500, rose almost 5%.
The combined wisdom of all market participants believes in free market capitalism, small government and lower taxes and it’s placing its bets where these things are likely to thrive.
Only 20 years ago, the UK stock market represented 11% of the global market.
Today it’s under 4% and going lower.
I’m a patriotic Brit, but my investment portfolio and those of our clients is positioned to capture where future growth will come from - and that’s not the UK.
Until we become a meritocracy that supports growth and free enterprise, the UK will remain a place that investors will avoid.
