[ The 2 E’s that we are lacking in the design of our Thai education system : Efficiency + Empathy ]
.
Yesterday, I joined a panel discussion hosted by @Thenationth to share my thoughts on the state of Thai education.
.
I shared that I see 3 key problems with Thai education:
.
1. Our education is not “meaningful” for students (e.g., curriculum and quality of teaching that does not equip people with the necessary skills for the future)
.
2. Our education is still filled with “unhappiness” (e.g., financial struggles parents face to pay for school-related expenses / mental health issues that students face in schools)
.
3. Our education is failing to promote “learning” (e.g., students are overwhelmed and burnt out from long hours in school and from overly competitive exams at multiple levels)
.
I believe that these problems stem from a lack of 2 E’s in designing our Thai education system:
.
1. “Efficiency” in converting the resources we put in (budget / student time / teacher time) into the outcomes that we desire.
.
2. “Empathy” in understanding the diverse needs and preferences of students and in trusting schools with decision-making.
.
.

Thank you to The Nation for inviting me to be a part of the discussion.

It breaks my heart so much how he was treated after everything he had done 💔
