$CRYING is recognised as one of the most OG cat memes, a series of photoshopped cat images with teary, glassy eyes made to look sad.

The origin traces back to an anonymous Meme Generator user who posted it on June 11th, 2014, splicing the Serious Cat's body with a separate photo of a teary-eyed, wet-nosed kitten face.

From there it spread across 4chan, Facebook, and eventually mainstream Reddit becoming one of the internet's go-to "I'm sad/relatable" reaction templates.

It made sense to redirect all fees to CAT, which is the largest nonprofit, adoption guarantee cat shelter in the Pacific Northwest, based in Sherwood, Oregon.

They provide adoption, foster care, and veterinary services to homeless cats and kittens, and their foster network alone cares for over 1,000 cats and kittens each year. Beyond adoptions, CAT runs a spay/neuter clinic, a rehoming and admissions program, a lost & found service, and the Keeping Cats in Homes Fund - a program aimed at helping cat owners keep their pets rather than surrender them.

CAT is entirely community-supported, relying on volunteers, foster families, and donors to fund vet care and shelter operations for cats in need across the region. Their mission is simple: give homeless cats a fresh start, essential medical care, and a real shot at landing in a loving home.
