You've heard about the California Gold Rush right? In 1848, gold was discovered in California and the news brought 300,000~ people to California from the rest of the United States and abroad. Crypto is a bit like this.
In 2017, CT was mostly "pure". We spent our time trading the majors (primarily $BTC ), altcoins, and some shitcoins on Etherdelta (the Uniswap of old). Sure.. ICO's eventually came, but to "make it" off ICO's would have required a person to already have substantial capital. Point being.. in 2017 your only option to grow was by trading or investing.
Once the bull runs kicked in, CT became a completely different place. The CT of today is riddled with grifters from different sectors and TikTok bros looking to fleece the OG crypto community of its capital. They heard stories of riches and came in droves. To reach California required thousands of miles of travel, but CT is just one click away. Grifters and their new projects are up and running within 24 hours. They promise the world and 99% deliver nothing. These grifters, self proclaimed "founders", fill their pockets and don't look back.
Don't get me wrong, it's a good thing crypto is expanding, but it also opens the doors to malicious actors. Projects and "mints" that are desperate for your investment are best avoided. The majority of people who survived on here since 2017 are traders and that says a lot in my opinion.
My advice for navigating CT..
If you're following a trader, they should be posting charts and providing market insight. If you're following an investor, they should be providing detailed fundamental analysis. If there's a new project you're interested in, do THOROUGH RESEARCH before buying. Do NOT get hyped by social media or the timeline. 99% of new projects will go to zero. Honoraries mean nothing, "founders" create them hoping for exposure from influencers. The end goal is fleecing the influencers' following of their capital (99% of the time). There are a few rare gems as not every new project is bad, but there is far more bad than good.
Stay vigilant and guard your capital, CT isn't what it used to be.
