Soulja boy got his start in Batesville, Mississippi a small country town that was most notable for their football team. He was one of the first real internet sensations when he debuted his hit record “Crank That” and influencing Hip Hop with his signature dance. He eventually went to Atlanta after getting signed to Mr ColliPark. Since a teenager he’s been a star and we’ve literally watched him grow up just like Chris Brown. They both at some point in their career ended up in Los Angeles and since have adopted the street culture of the city. Once again demonstrating how common it is for entertainer to pick up the characteristics of the West coast guys. Before they know it they become engulfed and just like with the Panthers start dressing, talking, and behaving like the California guys. The LA Effect is real and powerful.
THE LA EFFECT
No matter what you think about the west coast you can’t deny their influence on others has been infectious. Since the 60s the West Coast has been at the forefront of shaping Black Culture. From slang to the dominant ideology it all has been adopted by masses of black youth around the globe. Let’s go deeper.
LA is notorious for rappers getting consumed with their culture once they get there. People forget that 2 Pac was from New York. Before leaving Marin City in the Bay Area his music was more socially conscious. After he was shot and began associating with the LA guys on Death Row his lyrics shifted from socially conscious to gangsterism and Thug Life. Here he was a child of the Panthers raised in the movement to love black people and was now sublimely promoting gang culture in his music (MOB). This shows how powerful the LA Effect really is.
