NEW: ULEZ expansion is already working better than predicted, only six months on.
A new report shows London’s air quality is continuing to improve at a faster rate than the rest of England. Thanks to bold action, 5 million more Londoners are now breathing less toxic air.
@oldenoughtosay@clhubes the 3 nights I spent in a UK postnatal ward were the most stressful of my life. hot, stuffy, dramas of 3 other new mums audible through the curtains. endless blood pressure checks and no help at all with the newborn that only wanted to sleep on me
Neglected fact: getting more housebuilding is about more than planning reform.
Here’s an important graph for understanding that:
Developers have consistently under-delivered on their planning permissions for years.
🧵 on why and why it matters
not long after 10/7 there was huge debate — replete w/ in-depth investigations — abt whether Israel meant to bomb a hospital. now a daily recurrence that it bombs a hospital, school, refugee camp... a repetition that made it routine, inuring so many to the sheer horror of it all
The International Court of Justice has ruled that Israel's occupation of the Palestinian territory does not comply with international law and that settlement activity must cease.
Belgium will always stand up for the respect of international law.
five years in jail seems an extraordinary sentence for climate protesters - however disruptive - when the jails are overflowing and many prisoners are getting early release:

I know Just Stop Oil aren't everyone's cup of tea these days, but should we be worried that people are being jailed for five and four years because of an entirely non-violent protest? I think we probably should.

The shocking amounts of paving, glass and concrete that are appearing in new London developments such as the one at Paddington Station need urgent attention. ‘Londoners should be charged for paving gardens, says climate resilience report.’ https://t.co/tzE5rXF1bQ
@MirabelTweets1 my understanding is Starmer hasn't decided yet whether to pursue the legal case to block the ICC arrest warrants started by the previous government https://t.co/T7kVVOvUVD
It’s the first election after a coup attempt and the coup plotters are using democratic means to try to retake power. We probably don’t talk about that with enough clarity.
Trump’s running mate, JD Vance, has received at least $352,000 in 'contributions' from the oil and gas industry since 2019.
And during that time, he switched from being a clean energy advocate to a climate change denier. Funny that.

I’m devastated to see yet another Israeli strike on a school in Gaza. We cannot become numb to violations of international humanitarian law and look away from the loss of innocent lives. I reiterate the urgent call for a lasting ceasefire. https://t.co/fjsaCI70Yx
As a child bereaved by fatal domestic abuse, headlines calling a man who killed three women a “nice guy” and “normal person” have felt personally traumatic.
The media called my father a “gentle man” and “nice chap”, which misrepresented the controlling reality that myself and my family experienced for years. It compounded our trauma.
Reporting like this causes so much damage – both to victims’ families, and to public understandings of coercive control. It has to stop. Now.
We need every single newsroom trained in how to report domestic abuse deaths, and to lobby the regulator for stronger rules. The press has the power to prevent further deaths and save women’s lives.
Please support this crowdfunder I’ve started to support @we_level_up’s crucial work to train journalists in their Dignity For Dead Women guidelines.
