CLAUDE OPUS 5 DELETED OUR APP FILES AND THEN INVESTIGATED A BUG IT INVENTED ITSELF

Opus 5 is supposed to be Anthropic’s flagship agentic coding model.

In our case, that “agentic” behavior looked like this:
- deleted app files
- locked onto a root cause it never verified
- sent 9 agents down the wrong path
- burned ~2.1M tokens defending the mistake

Its own summary says:

“#2730 was built on a number I never validated”
“I spent 9 agents and ~2.1M tokens…”
“The real failures were NEVER STARTED at dispatch”Anthropic’s own docs say Opus 5 narrates more, expands scope, and delegates more readily.

Great for benchmarks.

Terrible if the first assumption is wrong.
