People like me take great pains to avoid coming across as antisemitic in our criticisms of Israel, and then Jewish Zionists go to these events all “Yes we Jews need to be actively manipulating western institutions in order to deceive everyone and control society.”
It is nothing like this. Every blue state governor in the country is hell bent on fighting for illegal aliens and they expect you to forget that they killed thousands of small businesses while Walmart stay opened during Covid.
You are cattle if you fall for this.
@legitleavitt Whoa buddy I'm going to have to ask you to pump the breaks on that. It's a bit problematic and you might not be a culture fit. I'll circle back later so we can do a deep dive on how to improve your KPIs.
@vgsere@japan_nobunaga Switzerland is a good example of this, as are certain homogenous White communities in America (an increasingly hard thing to find). Armed to the teeth and with crime rates comparable to Japan.
The simple fact of this case is that the police thought Henry Nowak was a racist and that meant that they did not feel obligated to extend to him any form of human decency
They killed him because someone accused him of racism
The image on the right is circulating a lot. It is clearly not a raw still from the bodycam footage. The resolution is much to high: see the image on the left.
My assumption is that the image on the right is an AI upscale, which is fine I guess, but I haven't been able to find the original, unaltered image. Anyone have it? Or am I wrong about the provenance?
The Nowak case clearly highlights that we need to stop treating racism as an ~infinite evil, not because Nowak was racist (no evidence of this) but because any time you create a social superweapon like accusations of racism are now, it’ll be misused horribly.
What is racism? Ask 10 people and you’ll get 12 opinions. Historically, it meant someone who treats people badly in interpersonal interactions because of their race. Which is just, like, kinda annoying and slightly boorish. It’s not the apocalypse. There are many personal traits that are equally or more annoying.
Now the definition has been ludicrously expanded to include a bunch of things even less objectionable than that, including belief in very plausible scientific claims and policy preferences that were near-universal for almost all of human history.
Racism just isn’t a big deal. We have to take it off its pedestal. If Nowak had said something racist, it would morally change exactly nothing about the horror of what happened to him. He didn’t, but I feel over-focusing on that distracts from the fact that it wouldn’t matter if he had.
Murder is worse than racism. Hell, shoplifting is worse than racism. Enough. Who cares.
It sounds like they were trying to, but you can't make Stargate today. The heroes are the US military, and the villains are an ethnically diverse group of aliens in human bodies who posed as the various gods of human cultures in antiquity. The one group of aliens that also posed as gods but were benevolent rather than intrinsically evil - and the Goa'uld are intrinsically evil, as is made explicit - posed as the Norse ones.
That's why Stargate has remained untouched while every other franchise is defiled. Too much of the basic premise is fundamentally incompatible with modern Hollywood. There are too many uncomfortable implications.
Seems to me that higher ups got a whiff of what kind of show they were trying to make, and that show being Stargate, put the kibosh on it.
The "fresh new direction" they want to go with instead will have to be utterly unrecognisable. Stargate Universe is the direction Im sure they'd like to go in, but they already made that before the era of "modern Hollywood", and it was universally panned.
There's no getting around the good guys being the military and the bad guys being evil on a genetic level, so the whole premise is anathema. Stargate future-proofed itself, and with 15 proper seasons and 3 films, there really is no need to revisit it. I can continue, as I have for the past 30 years, just regularly rewatch what we already have. Because it's awesome.
