@midwestBBQ2 @bojanfurst What peaked in #WWII (Croatian militant nationalism aka the #Ustaše) was a direct consequence of the repression by the pre-war #Serbian regime, including the assassination of #Croat leaders (Radić, Basariček) in #Yugo parliament. Anger doesn't materialize out of thin air.

The so-called "SAO Krajina" that Borjan referred to as his birthplace is not a town, but a self-proclaimed state created by Serb militias during their attempt to ethnically cleanse and annex 1/3 of Croatia's territory in the early 1990s. Capisce?

@IgorJaramaz Not true. You conveniently neglect to mention that the 300k #Serbs who fled in 1995, had occupied 1/3rd of #Croatia and cleansed it of non-Serbs for 4 long years, not unlike Russians in #Donbas these days. Croatian army only reclaimed its own territory and restored law & order.

@bojanfurst That's precisely the thing. The Ustashe regime led to the first successful attempt at Croatian statehood in modern history, which is why many don't view it as a warning and continue to celebrate it. Patriotism mixed with extremism is a very potent drug. 🤷‍♂️

Croatian anti-fascist Partizans defeated the Ustashe and Nazis in WW2, suffering some of the highest losses of any nation. The rise of the right wing hooliganism is a problem across Europe and doesn't reflect majority opinion.
