I'm Chesnyy—CKC high-point Rottweiler in rally obedience for the last two years. 🏆🐾

But last season was ruff. Static from the wheelchair tires caused shocks when I heeled, and twice the floor mats caught in the castors and the entire floor started to chase me...I started getting suspicious any time we went in a ring. It didn't feel fun anymore. And there were a lot of other life changes last year so we were already dealing with stress. And trust me, us dogs can smell human stress a mile away and it does affect us.

We took the fall and winter off from trials—no rings, no judges. Just my regular work days, treats, snoozes, and puppy adventures.

Now we're back: we're easing our way in. Instead of going right back to Master level rounds, we're starting back at intermediate AND advanced rounds this weekend. This will make sure neither the human or I get too stressed. And yeah—we're the only wheelchair-handler team around so sometimes between travel, unloading, set-up, and dealing with accessibility challenges she's already running on empty before we hit the ring entrance.

This practice 🎥? Tail doing happy waves, grin locked in. No zaps, no floor monsters—just happy paws and us owning it.

Liver pours from the heavens like I just hit the slots in doggy Vegas.

Downside?

The gremlin hears “touch” and translates it to “ALL-YOU-CAN-EAT CHESNYY BUFFET.”

He launches himself like a heat-seeking missile, and tries to remove my entire forearm with his collection of sewing-needle teeth.

I do not flinch.

I do not break sit.

I stare straight ahead like a British guard watching a tourist make a fool of themselves.

I collect my salary.

I mentally update my LinkedIn: “Experienced in high-risk treat acquisition.”

Human thinks she’s training the puppy.

Wrong.

I have engineered the perfect Ponzi scheme where the only victim is my patience and the only winner is my treat belly.

Attached: undeniable video proof of me becoming a millionaire while a sentient chainsaw attempts to saw me in half.

It's day 1 of the #ChristmasWithKenji (and Chesnyy too!) Charity Advent Countdown. 🎁 Each day we will highlight a special charity organization, and make a small donation to them. Today we want to tell you about a very special organization called Parachute for Pets. 🐶🐯
This organization is dedicated to helping vulnerable people and their pets stay together by helping to remove barriers and providing resources. They have a pet food bank, and a pet supply thrift shop, but what really hit home with me was their Safekeeping program.
This program provides emergency care for pets while their people are experiencing challenges and can't provide that care. This might be a medical emergency, domestic violence, or even houselessness. I've faced major medical challenges and have been blessed that I've had individuals I've been able to trust to care for my dogs. Not everyone is so fortunate. I hate to think of someone in a domestic violence situation not being able to leave because they have nowhere to take their pet, or equally as hard, having to surrender a pet to be able to escape violence.
Parachute for Pets also provides 24/7 emergency support to first responders, outreach teams, or community services that encounter pets in crisis, and ensure that emergency transport, safekeeping, and supplies are available. ♥️

We aren't able to make large donations to these organizations. I put aside a few dollars every month to go towards this holiday project, but I hope by raising some awareness, others might help.
