We need more young scientists like @kymorales11 who are engaging and approachable to bring conversations on plant biotechnology to families, friends, gardeners, and the dinner table 🍱 🌱 🪴
Had a ton of fun presenting to the Inyo-Mono Master Gardeners tonight on how we use biotech in making the crops that come to market! Thanks @cs_biotech and @GenomeLarry for all the advice in putting this together.
Always love student-organized events. Thank you @GE_TAMU for a fantastic program with a great line of speakers and the opportunity to talk about #GeneEditing product development and what it’s like to work at @Bayer4Crops
BREAKING NEWS:
The 2020 #NobelPrize in Chemistry has been awarded to Emmanuelle Charpentier and Jennifer A. Doudna “for the development of a method for genome editing.”
Enjoyed chatting with folks at #PlantBio20 about working in industry. Some highlights:
1. scientific qualifications get you an interview, and soft skills get you hired
2. #Networking is key to identify opportunities
thanks organizers @jphiliptaylor @kmgillespie@ASPB
My face when I am halfway through a professional presentation at an annual conference and the condo association decides to mow the lawn right outside my window and my toddler tries to bust through the door. 😑🤦🏻♀️😅👍 #covidwfhchallenge
Two things I really enjoy:
1. Coming up with cool new strategies or construct/experiment designs (preferably on a white board) that for sure are going to hit a goal and make an impact
2. Putting together presentations to summarize and communicate these ideas
#ilovemyjob 🧬❤️😎
Congratulations to @gregg_howe - A fantastic PhD mentor who shaped me to be the scientist I am today. Also cheers to all of the #HoweLab folks who mapped out a large piece of the insect/wound response and JA pathway. Crazy to see the authors I cite all show up in one zoom!
Got to sort lots of winter coats @STLCrisisKids with these fabulous ladies @Bayer4Crops on #MLKDay. Thank you @STLCrisisKids for the work you do and making such an impact on the community. Stay warm STL!
#WorkLifeBalance today for me means spending the day wholeheartedly with my toddler and reviewing manuscripts with a glass of wine 🍷after he goes to bed.
Prime editing, a new #CRISPR#genomeediting tool created by @davidrliu/@liugroup, directly edits human cells in a precise, efficient, and highly versatile fashion. The tool has the potential to correct up to 89% of #genetic defects. https://t.co/Jn4igFnd9W
Three lumpy rats. Panel A - Fed "GMO" corn. Panel B- Fed "roundup" herbicide. Panel C- Fed both. Scary, huh?
But what about the rat that ate normal food? Table 2 of the same paper shows it got tumors too. Why not show it?
Because then it is not scary. You've been fooled.
