so there's a rare raptor called the white-throated caracara that is basically only seen at the ushuaia landfill. usually people are standing far away looking at the birds and not like, crawling over trash huffing rat poop. but i have no idea what these people were doing

similar situation with “Common Loon” in the US vs “Great Northern Diver” overseas
#5: Predicted Antwren
Based on genetic analysis of birds in the region, biologists predicted that an undescribed species of antwren ought to exist in the western Amazon. As predicted, they found this new species in 2013, hence the name.
on my trip to colombia's western andes we saw dozens of these cicadas (to the point that a recurring joke was to say "i have a gift" and then hand over a cicada) and it turns out it's an undescribed species
