If you own, charter, or pilot, you refer to jets by their TAIL number

If you’re buying or selling a jet, you instead refer to it by the SERIAL number

Why?

1. Tail numbers change - think license plate. Serial numbers don’t - think wine. There are SN vintages to chase and avoid

2. Tail numbers are visible for Air Traffic Control
