Yesterday afternoon, a CAT Team Deputy was in the area of 120th and Seward, where the Omaha Fire Department was responding to a call for a suspected fire due to thick smoke in the area. The Deputy pulled into the apartment complex and was immediately made aware by bystanders of a black Ram pickup that had been performing burnouts in the parking lot and causing all the smoke. The Deputy attempted to stop the pickup, which fled, and a brief pursuit ensued. The pursuit was disengaged when it was determined that the risk to the innocent public was greater than the benefit of making an immediate stop.

The Deputy, with assistance from the Omaha Police Department, kept watch on the vehicle, which eventually returned to the area where everything began. There, Matthew KELSHAW, was taken into custody and booked into the Douglas County Department of Corrections on charges of:
✅ Flight to Avoid Arrest
✅ Reckless Driving
✅ Driving During Revocation
✅ Violation of a Traffic Signal

If a law enforcement officer is attempting to stop you, pull over. Often times the charges you may face if stopped are far less than the felony flight to avoid arrest and willful reckless driving charges you will face if you flee. Just because a pursuit is disengaged doesn't mean you got away, you will be caught. Let's all drive safely, and avoid bad decisions.
